Reconozco que tardé que Jeff Buckley acaparará toda mi atención que se merecía. Por aquellos años 90's mi vida musical estaba totalmente inmersa en la zona de Seattle, en plena efervescencia Grunge con personajes desaliñados con camisas de cuadros. Imagino que como me ocurrió a mi, a mucha gente a Buckley la cogió a contrapie, tampoco podría decirse que fuera fácil de escuchar y más en esos tiempos en que las voces rotas y desgarradoras era lo que establecía tanto en la televisión como en las radios de todo el mundo.
Jeff era hijo del que fuera también cantante Tim Buckley en las décadas de los 60 y 70 y que desafortunadamente falleció a causa de las drogas.
"Grace" vió la luz el 23 de agosto de 1994, primer y único disco de estudió que realizó, ya quedaba expuesto el infinito talento que desprendia ese joven de aspecto frágil y voz exquisita. Aún asi, el disco no fue bien recibido por la critica por aquel entonces, o mas bien dicho no supieron darle el valor a la obra que acaba de nacer y que años despues se convertiria en pieza de culto para miles de seguidores. "Last Goodbye" es quizás el tema más conocido gracias a que fue la unica cancion que se atrevieron a comercializar por las radios y que mas tarde se acabaria de conocer por haberla incluido en la banda sonora de la terrorifica pelicula "Vanilla Sky" y que protagonizó el no menos terrorifico Tom Cruise. Despues de un tiempo grandes músicos de todo el planeta como Chris Cornell, Jimmy Page o Bob Dylan salian hablando y adorando el disco de Buckley, de repente acababan de abrir los ojos a miles de seguidores, de repente ese disco habia cogido el reconocimiento que se merecia, se convirtio un disco con multiples referencias para muchos artistas. Ya no era uno de los mejores discos de los 90, sino que era uno de los mejores discos de la historia del Rock.
Quizás habria que destacar otra canción que se hizo famosa por meritos propios seria "Hallelujah" el clásico de Leonard Cohen, una canción con muchas reseñas religiosas y enigmática, una canción con una voz que te lleva al sumun de la exquisitez vocal donde Buckley no canta, sino recita como un ángel cada frase que sale de su interior, donde es capaz de acaparar con majestuosidad toda la sensibilidad de la canción y te envuelve en sus dulces susurros y termina con ese llanto como si una vela se tratase que va apagandose poco a poco.
Podria enumerar cada canción del disco, pero necesitaria una entrada nueva por canción de todo lo que se puede decir. Es de los pocos discos que es extremadamente dificil explicar con palabras, solo se puede sentir.
La obra como artista fue inacabada, nunca sabremos como hubieran sido sus proximos discos pero si hay algo seguro, es que nació, vivió y murió siendo mito y eso es algo que jamás nadie podrá quitarselo, al igual que su musica y por supuesto su voz que permanecera para siempre en cada vela que vea y en cada lágrima que resvale por mi mejilla.
Para ir acabando es un disco totalmente apabullante y totalmente fuera de este mundo para alguien con un rango vocal incomparable, con una voz que en muchas ocasiones fue comparada con una mezcla de Robert Plant y Edith Piaf, pero sin llegar a ningún momento al plagio, sino que era toda originalidad. Canciones viscerales y emotivas acompañadas siempre de toda una gama de estilos que van del hard rock, blues, soul, gospel y jazz. Acompañado siempre de su mano derecha Gary Lucas.

After a while great musicians from around the world as Chris Cornell, Jimmy Page or Bob Dylan came out talking and worshiping Buckley disk suddenly just opened the eyes of thousands of fans, that record had suddenly caught the recognition deserved, he became a disc with multiple references to many artists. It was not one of the best albums of the 90's, but it was one of the best albums in the history of Rock.Perhaps we should point another song made famous on merit serious "Hallelujah" Leonard Cohen classic, a song with many reviews religious and enigmatic, a song with a voice that takes you to the exquisite voice sumun where Buckley sings but as an angel recites every sentence that comes out of his belly, where it is able to corner with all the sensitivity majesty of the song and envelops you in its sweet whispers and ends with the crying as if it were a candle going little by switching off bit.I could list every song on the album, but would need a new entry for song of all that can be said.
