Hoy rescato uno de los discos mas desconocidos para el público de la escena alternativa de los años 90s, se trata del "Cooper Blue" del grupo "Sugar". Bob Mould ex miembro de Husker Du sorprendió a todos después que rompiera con su antiguo grupo y formara un nuevo proyecto con un sonido diferente sin tratar de repetir el sonido "punk" de los Huskers. El tachó esa dirección para forjare una nueva. Más bien intentó algo nuevo que fuera sorprendentemente accesible. Su banda, "Sugar", fue aclamada como un supergrupo, pero Mould era claramente una estrella del espectáculo. Sus guitarras fuertes eran estándar de punk, pero en lo que destacaban Sugar eran en sus melodías suaves y vitaminadas, cada canción sonaba dura y eficiente pero sin atronar. Al igual que en Husker Du, la química entre Mould y el resto de la banda era demasiado volátil para durar, pero antes de que la banda se separara hicieron este maravilloso álbum, un álbum aclamado como un clásico de los años 90.Probablemente sería tirar mi reputación como seguidor de bandas alternativas si dijera que nunca había oído nada de Husker Du, pero la verdad es que escuchado bien poco, creo que tengo un disco por ahi perdido desde hace muchisimos años y apenas le prestado atención. Así que cuando vi el "Copper Blue" por Grooveshark volví a escucharlo mas de 1 década después de la última vez que lo hiciera en una vieja cinta de cassette grabada.Lo que encuentras en el álbum es una colección robusta de canciones pop-rock con tendencias punk, folk e instrumentación. Hay algunos temas sobresalientes como "A good idea" y "Changes" , pero en general, me parece que aguanta bien el álbum, especialmente teniendo en cuenta Mould es oblicuo. El álbum explora varios estilos diferentes, sin abandonar su sonido básico: melodrama pesimista "The Slim" y "Slick", o la Stoner-Rock "the act we act". A pesar de la consistencia global del disco, hay algún punto débil como "if i can't change your mind", que en mi opinión es la más floja.
En general, lo que incide en la escucha es la influencia del sonido característico de Pixies y la inmediatez de las melodías, para hacerlas agradables rápidamente. Es un álbum que respira sonido de Pixies por los cuatro costados, pero no molesta y es agradable.

So when I saw the "Copper Blue" by Grooveshark returned to hear more than one decade after the last time I did it in an old cassette tape recorded.What you find on the album is a robust collection of pop-rock songs with punk tendencies, folk and instrumentation. There are some standout tracks like "A good idea" and "Changes", but overall, I think the album holds up well, especially considering Mould is oblique. The album explores many different styles without abandoning its basic sound: pessimistic melodrama "The Slim" and "Slick", or the Stoner-Rock "the act we act". Despite the overall consistency of the disk there is a weakness as "If I Can not Change Your Mind", which in my opinion is the weakest.
In general, what strikes the listener is the influence of the characteristic sound of Pixies and immediacy of the melodies, to make nice fast. It's an album that breathes Pixies sound on all four sides, but not annoying and it's nice.
