La llegada de "Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness" fue la definición de lo que significaba el Rock Alternativo en 1995, un álbum conceptual lleno de espíritu de la epoca Grunge y que su congénere mas representativo había muerto un año atrás.
The Smashing Pumpkins encarnan en este disco lo que fue la Generación-X, pesimismo,
confusión y enfado reprimido todos sucintamente transmitido por el icóno "ZERO" que llevaba Billy Corgan en su camiseta negra, que por cierto siempre quise tener y jamas tuve :( . Pero Mellon Collie fue mucho más
allá de la desilusión cotidiana de la época juvenil.
El desarrollo del disco son más de dos horas de un genero imposible de encontrar a día de hoy, logrando en ocasiones sublimes de belleza, serenidad y profundidad, siguiendo durante todo el disco la misma línea trazada sin cruzarla.

Collie fue grabado con una gran cantidad de material 57 canciones
terminadas que acabaron siendo 28, el álbum todo ello está aquí en esta caja de 5 CD´s. Con canciones en directo, mezclas alternativas y material inédito a
través de 3 CD´s adicionales, junto con un
DVD de dos conciertos de 1996, un total de 106 canciones, un exceso de nostalgia de un disco que recibió siete nominaciones a los Grammy.
Durante este viaje al pasado podemos encontrar demos
como la famosa "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" donde se oye a Corgan cantar en falsete o la desafortunada "Zero" mezclada con sintetizadores o la algo mas normal "1979", ofrecen
atisbos valiosos a los mejores temas del disco o como la cover "My Blue Heaven". Pero hay que reconocer que destancando un par de temas de calidad de caras B y rarezas a lo
largo de la caja, en general, es un exceso de material desechable, es mas abultada que innovadora, en definitiva no ofrece gran cosa. Lo único reseñable a destacar seria oír los errores, experimentos, ensayos, y rarezas que mucha gente
ha estado esperando oír durante tanto tiempo, el lado más humano de una banda que con este disco toco la divinidad.
Por
lo tanto, esta masiva caja de 5 CD´s de re-lanzamiento es posiblemente el logro máximo de lo que fueron Smashing Pumpkins por el álbum
original: es ambiciosa pero frustrantemente larga, y emocionante al mismo tiempo.El álbum original llego a mis manos cuando tenia 18 años y ahora teniendo 35 puedo decir que me sigue erizando el pelo despues de tanto tiempo y matandome frases como "A pesar de mi rabia, tan sólo soy una rata en la jaula".

The
arrival of "Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness" was the definition
of what it meant Alternative Rock in 1995, a concept album full of the
spirit of the age and its congener Grunge most representative had died a
year ago.
The
Smashing Pumpkins embody in this album what was the Generation-X,
pessimism, confusion and anger repressed all succinctly conveyed by the
icon "ZERO" Billy Corgan wearing his jersey in black, which by the way I
always wanted and never had: ( .
Mellon Collie But it was far beyond the daily disappointment youthful
era.
Development drive more than two hours of a genre impossible to find
today, achieving at times sublime beauty, serenity and depth, following
during whole disk the same line drawn without crossing it.

Collie was recorded with a large amount of material completed 57 songs

live tracks, alternate mixes and unreleased material by three
additional CDs, along with a DVD of two concerts of 1996, a total of 106
songs, too much nostalgia for an album that received seven Grammy
nominations.
During
this trip to the past we can find demos as the famous "Bullet With
Butterfly Wings" where Corgan is heard singing in falsetto or the
unfortunate "Zero" synths mixed with something more normal "1979", offer
valuable insights to Top disk or the cover "My Blue Heaven". But
we must recognize that a couple of songs destancando quality of B-sides
and rarities along the box, in general, is an excess of disposable
material is more bulky than innovative, really no big deal. The
only noteworthy to point out serious errors hearing, experiments,
tests, and oddities that many people have been waiting to hear for so
long, the human side of a band with this album touched divinity.
Therefore,
this massive box of 5 CD's re-launch is possibly the crowning
achievement of their former Smashing Pumpkins on the original album: is
ambitious but frustratingly long, and exciting at the same time.
The original album came into my hands when I was 18 and now having 35 I can say I still bristling hair after killing me so long and phrases like "Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage".
