THE TEMPER TRAP
"THE TEMPER TRAP"
Liberation
2012

Salud!.

*****

I could not stop commenting on the new album by The Temper Trap for several reasons. The group hit the spot with "Conditions" in 2009, creating a record that had a unique taste for most, but still independent enough to play with all kinds of followers of various styles of music. Virtually disappeared for three years, until the release of this album namesake. Nothing betrays the desire of a band in "change" or "reinvent" rather than release a self-titled album. I'm not sure how The Temper Trap wanted to change, but I would not say it was a decision to improve.
The film "500 Days of Summer" was "Sweet Disposition" which was New Slang "The Shins" in "Garden State". The film took songs that were, well, ... is transformed to devour the movie itself, for my Sweet Disposition became obsessive, I tear them worshiped the memory and heart. I would say "Sweet Disposition" is a song that could be heard as you walk through a rainy city streets while this backdrop inserted. The problem of creating a song and also has a negative reading. You just can not write another song like that, because songs like this only come once in a while or maybe in life. It is very difficult to mix a song with a good standing. A call that is special.Unfortunately, it seems that The Temper Trap have made a change in their sound to something "more commercial". I'm not implying that they were trying to get back to do another "Sweet Disposition" in fact, the synthesizer that dominates the first single "Need Your Love" shows that try to do that at all. Change the sound of the first single and the rest of the album, just does not feel natural. It feels soulless, calculated, even prefabricated. The warm voice of Dougy Mandagi is not as prevalent as it was in "Conditions". Many songs are hymns of style, but the impression given me is that the sounds are not free, they are tied.Certain songs, The Temper Trap are worth listening more than a few times, such as "Miracle" and "I'm Gonna Wait", which give the impression of being somewhat dense but after a certain time you hear that appreciate. Even in these songs feel like they need a push.
Considering how easy it seemed for The Temper Trap write a catchy song "Conditions", the lack of snagging issues is most notable in this album. I will not relegate this group a band of one song because "Conditions" as a whole is a sublime album. But a song as bad as "London's Burning", lowers many whole this album. Not saying it's a bad album, it has some issues "decent and endearing" but there are times when it is also burdened by other very decadent. Worth watching the video for "Need Your Love" is fun. Cheers.
