Para mí, este álbum es un clásico y si alguna vez hiciera un top 25 de álbumes de toda la lista de mis preferidos seguramente estaría en el top 15 con toda seguridad. Me acuerdo de mi vieja cinta de cassette en que todavía conservo en forma de grabación pirata. Claro, esto es mucho antes de la era de Internet cuando la música tenia otro calado para los que amamos la música, esto fue en algún momento de principios de los años 90, 1994 tal vez. Yo no sabía nada de la banda de James ni de practicamente ningún grupo, pero un amigo que tenia me dijo que lo escuchara que estaba muy bien, y bendito caso que le hice en aquel día!. Cuando tuve el álbum en mi manos fue darle al play y fue todo como un torrente de música alegre y estupefacción. Fue la bienvenida a las increíbles voces de Tim Booth y su música en capas magnífica por el resto de la banda. No te puedo decir qué canción es mi favorita porque todas son increíbles, aunque mentiría si no dijese que "Sometimes" destaca un poco ante todas ellas. Algunas personas pueden conocer la canción "Laid", es una melodía para que la gente salga bailando de cualquier pub, pero para ser honesto, no es ni siquiera su mejor canción!. La canción "Say Something" tiene un coro de guitarras que te rascan el alma en la distancia. "Five-0" me lleva de viaje para estar enamorado y sentir que el amor viene de la música, canción hermosa donde las haya, violines y guitarras adicionales que suenan como las olas de un océano, rompiendo en una playa con las estrellas brillando.
Escuché el álbum semanas y meses seguidos, no dejó que mi walkman dejara tregua a la cinta, se trataba de una banda sonora de mis años de adolescente, concretamente 19 años después todavía me sigue emocionando escuchar el álbum. Suena tan bien como la primera vez que lo escuché. James es una banda que son como esos viejos amigos que no has visto durante años, pero una vez que los vuelves a ver de nuevo nada cambia. Solo son buenos momentos, buenos recuerdos.
Esto es lo que ocurre cuando se introduce a Brian Eno en una banda como James que la conexión entre ambos es una armonía. "Laid" es muy probablemente que sea su mejor trabajo, pues si, es su mejor obra, pero no sólo porque ésta es mi página de reseñas y lo diga yo, sino mucha gente opina lo mismo. En un principio no se vendió tanto como Seven o Goldmother, sobre todo porque los singles eran canciones muy simples y eran ligeramente inferiores a los anteriores singles. "Low Low Low" terminó sino recuerdo mal como una canción de un anuncio de fútbol, por dios! como si no tuviéramos mejores canciones en el álbum, una de las canciones más cortas y sin chispa de todo el disco, y aunque en última instancia acabas por engancharte a ella, esta demasiado faltada de sustancia. Afortunadamente, el resto del disco es magnífico. Ya sabes, las canciones que no son singles son igual excelentes. Todo excelente. Y no, no me estoy olvidando de la maravillosa "Sometimes", esa es una de las mejores canciones de la banda, con un maravilloso y simple sonido de guitarra folk hace que todo lo que te rodea sea mejor, con una de las letras más cautivadoras que Tim Booth haya escrito nunca, inmensamente atmósfera.
Después de lo más destacado que es "Sometimes", también hay la destacable y genial como ya dije antes "Say Something" lanzada también como sencillo, que decir que las primeras seis canciones son increíblemente envolventes y hermosas. Durante todo el camino a través de este álbum las voces se mantienen y las letras le siguen. James siempre estuvieron abiertos a la interpretación en lo que a lo poético se refiere. Hay algún tema de la talla de "Knuckle Too Far" que no es especialmente buena canción, incluso si se toma lejos de todo el trabajo. En cambio el cierre de las dos canciones hace elevar el nivel nuevamente, y son la razón principal del álbum (junto con "Sometimes", por supuesto! ). "Lullaby" es tan hermosa, una canción hecha con las tripas, solamente ha podido escribirla alguien quien se cree su propia letra, soñadora y desgarradora como pocas. Un bello interludio de piano y la última canción suena, "Skindiving", aqui se hacen presente enormemente los beneficios de la presencia de Brian Eno. Una voz de falsete da la belleza , muy sugerente al igual que la guitarra y las líneas de bajo, entrelazándose mutuamente como si de una espiral se tratara con las voces que se suman la belleza y el estado de ánimo. Siempre que la escucho me siento como si estuviera flotando en el borde de un acantilado mirando al fondo, hacia el final, hacia el un profundo océano para no volver jamás . Así es el disco, te hace soñar, te hace ir a la deriva. Y sobretodo te hace revivir.

me , this album is a classic and if you ever do a top 25 albums of all
my favorites list would certainly be in the top 15 for sure. I remember my old cassette tape which I still have in bootleg form . Sure,
this is long before the Internet era when music had another draft for
those who love music , it was sometime in the early 90s, maybe 1994 . I
knew nothing of the James Gang or virtually any group, but a friend who
told me he had heard it was very good, and blessed if I did that day ! .
When I had the album in my hands was hit play and it was all like a stream of lively music and stupefaction . It was incredible welcome the voices of Tim Booth and his gorgeous layered music for the rest of the band. I
can not say which song is my favorite because they are all amazing
though lying if I did not say that " Sometimes" out a little at all . Some
people may know the song " Laid " is a tune to get people out dancing
in any pub, but to be honest , it is not even their best song! . The song "Say Something " has a chorus of guitars you scratch the soul in the distance. "
Five-0 " travel leads me to be in love and feel that love comes from
music , beautiful song ever there , additional guitars and violins that
sound like the waves of an ocean, crashing on a beach with stars
shining.
I heard the album weeks and months at a time , do not let my walkman truce stop the tape, it was a soundtrack to my teenage years , namely 19 years later I still listen to the album still moves . It sounds as good as the first time I heard it . James is a band that are like those old friends you have not seen for years, but once again you see again nothing changes. They are only good times , good memories.
This is what happens when introduced to Brian Eno in a band like James that the connection between the two is a harmony. " Laid " is very likely to be your best work , because if it is his best work, but not just because this is my review page and I say so, but many people feel the same . At first it did not sell as much as Seven or Goldmother , especially since the singles were simple songs and were slightly lower than previous singles . "Low Low Low " ended but recall a song from a soccer ad , by God ! as if we had better songs on the album, one of the shorter songs without spark of the whole album, and although ultimately you end up hooked to it too missed this substance. Fortunately, the rest of the album is gorgeous . You know, the songs that are not singles are equally excellent . All excellent . And no, I'm forgetting the wonderful "Sometimes" , that's one of the best songs of the band, with a wonderful , simple folk guitar sound makes everything around you better, with one of the letters more Tim Booth captivating ever written , immensely atmosphere.
After the highlight is " Sometimes" , there is also remarkable and brilliant as I said before "Say Something " also released as a single, to say that the first six songs are incredibly enveloping and beautiful . All the way through this album the vocals are kept and letters followed . James had always been open to interpretation as to the poetic concerns . There is an issue of the likes of " Knuckle Too Far" which is not particularly good song, even if it takes away from all the work. Instead the closure of the two songs does raise the level again , and are the main reason the album (along with "Sometimes" , of course) . " Lullaby" is so beautiful, a song made with guts, only been able to write someone who believes his own handwriting , dreamy and poignant than most. A beautiful piano interlude and the last song plays , " skindiving " are present here benefit greatly from the presence of Brian Eno . A falsetto gives beauty, very suggestive as the guitar and bass lines , intertwining each other as if it were in spiraling voices that add beauty and mood. Whenever I hear it I feel like I was floating on the edge of a cliff looking at the bottom , towards the end, to the deep ocean , never to return . This is the hard , makes you dream , makes you drift . And above you relive .
