 MGMT
"MGMT"
Columbia
2013

Your Life Is A Lie".

The third full-length from the duo of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser is a clear reference to death , sadness and darkness with brief flashes of vitality as the single " Your Life Is A Lie " . Say NO choruses here and this is not a new " Oracular Spectacular " and of Me ! MGMT is an album less versatile than its predecessor , the fantastic "Congratulations" A clear message passing say these hymns oblivious flooding Indie Pop festivals and radios today.
"Alien Days" kicks out with this chorus a duet simulating children's voices and other more serious , a little wonder replete find details including wind sections , liquid sounds and a touch melancholy and stale . Once again produced by Dave Fridmann ( The Flaming Lips usual ) that gives these retrospective and psychedelic nuances necessary to shine as it should.
MGMT sounds ominous , like a chasm , trapped in a bewildering dream you do not want to wake up and that is manifested in "Mystery Disease" and then marvel at " Introspection" . On the latter , saying that is definitely the best of the album, and is a version of Faine Jade 1968. Another of the best tracks on the album is "Plenty of Girls In The Sea " which in its first moments reminiscent of the times of Syd Barrett Pink Floyd mixed with The Flaming Lips . But fail with "Astro Mancy " too old threads and with many synthesizers. Ultimately MGMT have built their most rare and controversial ( will give much to talk about ) is as if in a few years would have been absorbed by their own fanaticism almost sickening to the psychedelic and is not going back to the Mainstream (in quotes ) of your first album , which I think is a very rare thing in a company such as Sony that publishes and markets its discs that hold these two types aliens at ease.
